Tips For Book Blogging

 Tips For Book Blogging

I know what you might be thinking: “Ava, you know nothing about book blogging! You’ve only been blogging for 4 months.” Well, rude person, I have only been blogging for 4 months, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have some tips and suggestions for bloggers! These tips don’t only apply to new bloggers, they could be helpful for anyone!

  • Blog for YOU

Remember that you started blogging because you wanted to. Don’t post things just because everyone else is doing it. Don’t think you have to post Top 10 Tuesdays every Tuesday, or at all, if you don’t want to! Make your blog unique. If you like music, post about music! Don’t feel confined to books. Blog about what you like.

  • Don’t do it for the ARCs

People can tell if you’re only doing it to receive Advance Reader’s Copies. It’s easy to see, and people aren’t going to want to follow you because of it.

  • Post consistently

Don’t sporadically post. Don’t post every day for 4 days, than go on a hiatus for two weeks. It’s easier to spread out your posts if you might not be able to post every day. If you can only post once a week, that’s fine! As long as you’re posting the same day each week. For me, I like to post at least every other day.

  • Comment!

Comment on other people’s blogs! And make your comments meaningful. Don’t just say “Great post! Check out my blog @ blah”. Commenting is a great way to get people to notice your blog, if your comments are meaningful and relate to the subject of the post. If you leave a nice, long comment about your thoughts on the subject of the post (especially if it’s a discussion!), the person will possibly check out and follow your blog, or at least remember you the next time you comment, and look at your blog that time. Commenting is also a great way to make blogging friends.

  • Post quality content

Don’t post just for the sake of posting. Make your posts quality and interesting for your followers! It’s better to post two great posts every week instead of seven quick posts that took you ten minutes each to write. People can tell the time you’re putting in, and the effort it took you, and it’ll make your blog better and encourage more people to follow you.

  • Schedule posts

On WordPress at least, I know you can schedule posts ahead of time, which makes it so much easier to make sure that a certain post goes up on the day it has to, so you don’t forget. Also, by scheduling you can have posts up early, so you don’t have to wake up that early to press the publish button. This way your posts are up for more people to see.

  • Create a Twitter

Twitter helps SO MUCH. It’s an easy way to promote posts and gain followers, but also it’s so much fun. You make so many friends through Twitter, and I’ve met people who aren’t just friends, they feel like family.

  • Make blogging friends

You can meet some amazing through Twitter and commenting on other blogs. I’ve met a few best friends, and a lot of friends, through Twitter especially. Everyone is so kind and wonderful.

  • Participate in Twitter chats

Twitter chats are so much fun!! You meet lots of new bloggers, and your blog might get noticed more if you are engaged in the Twitter blogging community.

  • Create a Bloglovin

Bloglovin is a way for people who aren’t on the same blogging platform as you to follow you! If you were using WordPress, through Bloglovin, a person using Blogger could follow your blog, and vice versa. It provides a way to get more followers, and is an easy way to follow blogs and read posts!

What are some blogging tips you have learned? Comment them! Let’s help each other out. Are any of these tips ones you wish you’d known about when you started blogging?

Thanks for reading!

Ava

  2. Me again! On another note, what are some of the Twitter chats you’ve got involved in? I can’t seem to find any for blogging specifically – or are you just talking about chats on any topic you like?

  4. I started my blog about two weeks ago, and those tips are really helpful ! I might have found a good reason to finally create a Twitter account 😉
Also I didn’t know that a thing such as BlogLovin existed, and I think it is really cool and useful !
    Thank you !

  5. These tips are great! I’ve only been out here for around 5 months and yet these are still helping me – plus, I don’t think the amount of time we’ve been around for really matters. In the end we’re all here to help each other out and just because we don’t have years of experience doesn’t mean we can’t still come up with good tips!

  6. I COMPLETELY AGREE with all of the above. Especially Twitter. I wish I discovered it when I was new to book blogging – after recently getting it, I know now what I’ve been missing out on! Same with Bloglovin’ – it’s such a useful tool! Speaking of Bloglovin’.,..any chance I could follow your blog with that? I don’t see a button anywhere, sorry! I’ve probably missed it or something… >.<

  7. Those tips are amazing! I’ve worked professionally with bloggers before becaming one myself and all the principles that you described are just right! But the main thing is to blog for yourself, nothing can compete with one’s passion for it 🙂 Thanks for sharing these!! ❤

  8. I have been blogging for about a month and I still don’t post consistently (is that proper grammar?). I normally write up my posts a few days early, then on the day I’m gonna post it or they day before I’ll edit them so they’re nice and pretty.
I don’t comment on many blogs because I use Bloglovin and I don’t think they have the commenting function. I never know what to say in a comment because I’m really awkward when talking to new people, it’s the same on Twitter. I’m afraid people will judge me.
I love this post and I’m probably gonna save it to read in the future!

  9. This is such a great post and I really mean it. I’ve been book blogging for over a year. I have to say one of the things I’ve learned is that it’s okay not to like the book EVERYONE seems to love. We all have different opinions and we should just enjoy that.

I absolutely agree, Twitter is the best platform. I’ve found a ton of people to communicate with when it comes to books. I love it.

  10. These are some great points, Ava. I agree with the Twitter thing–chats are so fun! When we started blogging, we didn’t even KNOW about ARCs! I think it’s important for people to not get caught up in the ARCs, in wanting free books–it’s easy to fall into that trap! Again, great post 🙂

  13. I have to agree on all your points. Ever since I’ve really made an effort to communicate with everyone and to participate more myself, I have also gotten the same effort back. And in the end it is always important that you have fun and do it for yourself. Great post!

  14. Ooh, these are some really great points! … I’ll admit to sometimes posting sporadically — especially lately. But I used to post every day, and a) that was just too hard, and b) I felt like the content I was posting just wasn’t up to the standard it should’ve been. So this year I thought I would trrryyyyyy to stick to a schedule, but not stress if things got too out of hand.

    Great post!

  15. Your post is really helpful Ava! I think my tip for bookblogging and blogging in general is: Do not be ashamed to say that you didn’t love a book! People wants to see your HONEST thoughts about a certain book

I’m kidding hahaha 😛 This was actually really helpful, especially for new bloggers. When I was starting out, I really needed posts like this, with tips that aren’t immediately obvious. Especially the Twitter one – all social media is incredibly helpful! 🙂
