Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Fall Book Recommendations

At first this list was going to be “Top 10 Scary Book Recommendations”, and then I realized… Oh. I haven’t read 1o scary books. I get scared really easily, so I tend to shy away from the creepier books. This list instead transitioned to fall book recommendations, because in the fall, I tend to read a lot of fantasy- well, I actually read fantasy 24/7. But fall seems to be the perfect time to curl up with a fantasy/darker book!

To me, these books are PERFECT for fall. Hopefully, they’ll be like that for you!

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

This is probably my favorite book ever- it’s just that good. If you like fantasy books with a bit of romance and a lot of action, this is for you. It just LOOKS LIKE FALL, okay, have you seen it? Plus, its sequel just released, so you need to read it. 

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter is a classic, and it’s the perfect book to read in the colder months. This is when I do my Harry Potter reread, so why don’t you join me? And if for some reason, you HAVEN’T read HP… Well. Now’s the time to get on that. 

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Illuminae is a book set in space, and the really cool thing about it is that it’s told not like a regular book, but through hacked files, including emails, schematics, military files, medical reports, journal entries and more. The whole book is just so cool-looking. I think it’s a fall-y (which is definitely a word) book. 

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

This book takes place in Prague, and features a war between demons and angels, and a main character with bright blue hair. Yep, it’s awesome. It’s a wonderful book to read while snuggling in a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa. 

The Diviners by Libba Bray

This book is set in 1920’s New York City, and it honestly gave me nightmares, but it was so good. I read it a LONG time ago, but it’s really. really. REALLY. creepy. 

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This book is just beautiful. It’s about a circus, and two star-crossed lovers, and has beautiful writing.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Stalking Jack the Ripper takes the story of Jack the Ripper and twists it into a feminist story about a young Victorian girl who is trying to find Jack. As I’m the street team leader, I MAY be a bit biased? It’s great, I promise, and Jack the Ripper stories can’t NOT be slightly scary. 

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

This quartet is one of my favorites ever. It’s about Virginia and psychics and rich boys and it’s marvelous. To me, it’s completely a fall book… but I’m not sure why.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Definitely one of the creepier books on this list, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is so great, and features a really attractive love interest as a bonus! 

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

This is a trilogy that MAY seem scary because each book is about 78349023 pages long, but they’re WORTH IT, I SWEAR. It’s hardcore fantasy, and now’s the perfect time to pick it up!
